laurita "laurie" reyes, 24 years old, born in guadalajara, mexico, registered nurse
laurita was still in utero when her family made the journey to texas from the center of guadalajara, mexico. a difficult start to family life motivated her parents to follow the elusive american dream - with two children under their belt and another on the way, they wanted the best for their family and decided america held the key. both reyes children quickly picked up english from television shows and classmates, and laurie was born into a multi-lingual family, picking up both spanish and english through her siblings and parents. the reyes children helped their parents to learn basic phrases and found a neighborhood with plenty of other latino families, so texas quickly felt like a home away from home. though her parents remained homesick for guadalajara, they saw their children thrive in the american education system and knew they'd made the right decision. laurie was 14 when her family were deported back to mexico, much to the shock of herself and all her siblings. until then, she hadn't even questioned the legality of her citizenship in the united states and texas was well and truly her home. she was sent to live with her aunt in redwood where she stayed for the next two years until she graduated high school and returned to texas, finding the memories of her teenage life surprisingly difficult to stomach. she moved around from that point onwards, drifting from state to state and working cash jobs to fund her travels. after an extensive stay in los angeles, laurie decided to settle back in the area where her aunt was based, moving back to redwood and enrolling in a nursing degree at the age of twenty. the four year degree has seen her recently graduate, taking up her first paid position as a registered nurse at redwood hospital, though the area has still never truly felt like home and she regularly considers going back to texas.
